A request...

We are having a very difficult time right now, so if you could keep us in your thoughts and prayers, we would appreciate it.

My daughter was attacked by a dog at work yesterday.  She had 21 puncture wounds, some of them very deep. They are on both sides of both her arms.  She had to have stitches and is all bandaged up.

She is bandaged up to her elbows. She is very swollen, and pretty sore right now.  The worry now is infection. If infection sets in, she will have to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics. She may also need to see a plastic surgeon.

And this morning we got a call from out vet. And She wants to amputate Holly's toe on Friday. Holly has had something wrong with one of her toes for a few weeks. Our vet tried two different antibiotics, neither worked. She has this open wound that just won't heal. We went for an X-ray on Friday, and that shows it is not cancer in the bone. But since its not healing, and there is still a risk of a soft tissue cancer, she thinks we should just remove the toe. After what we went through with Lad, I think I would just rather go ahead with the surgery instead of risking the chance of cancer that might spread. I just can't believe we are being hit with all of this at once!

  3. :-( Oh man, what a rough couple of days for you guys! I hope that your daughter heals up really quickly and doesn't need to have plastic surgery. At least it was a dog and not a cat, cause those wounds get badly infected almost 95% of the time. Poor Holly (and you guys), I hope that the surgery goes quickly and easily for her!! Take care guys!!

  7. Oh my gosh. We are so sorry to hear about your daughter. Very similar thing happened to our aunty 12 months ago. We definitely will have her in our thoughts and hope she heals very quickly without any hospital admission. We will also keep Holly close to our hearts. Don't worry Holly, our cousin Jinx lost a toe to a farm accident and she runs like the wind!! Giant hugs to you all (but gentle ones for your daughter). Take care. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory (and Carol)

  8. Oh wow! Does your daughter work with dogs? I am glad I never got bit any when I was doing the vet tech thing. Hope the amputation goes well. We amputated several toes in fear of cancer too. It's probably for the best.

  16. How awful! My thoughts are with your daughter and with you. I haven't been following for very long, does your daughter work as a vet? My daughter is a vet tech and I'm always a little worried she'll get hurt. I'm so sorry. The decision to amputate Holly's toe sounds like the wise choice. Best wishes for them both to heal well.

  23. Oh no! I'm just now getting around to visiting blogs. Those dog bites look awful. Sure hope they don't get infected. I was bitten by a dog a long time ago and it was no fun. Our dog bit our son when he was little and he was in the hospital for a week. I hope your daughter doesn't have to go through all of that. Hoping and praying that the bites heal without any complications. As for Holly…I guess it is better to have it removed rather than deal with something serious later on. Sorry about that too. You sure have a lot going on. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Hope everything turns out okay.

  26. Hi, we're sorry we're so late on this but we wanted to let you know that we're worried too. But we're hopeful that whatever the nature of that problem toe is. that with its removal, all will be well again. Getting it early is good.

  27. Oh man, those bite wounds look bad. I wonder what caused the dog to strike in the first place. I read that your daughter is doing better, so I'm glad for you guys!

  28. I hope that you are all doing okay now after your very difficult week. It seems like these things always happen all at once (it's so unfair) and then always pass on again for a long time. Please know know that we are all thinking of you and sending our well wishes across the miles.
