Simple is Best

Thanks to our new friends at Treat Simple, we have another new dog treat to review!  This company shares my belief that dog food and treats should be only made with quality ingredients.  When I read the product labels for some of the popular dog treats I have to cringe at the ingredient lists.  Treat Simple believes that dogs are family, and they deserve high quality dog treats made with human grade ingredients, and all their products are made right in the USA!

When I look at my collies' sweet faces, I want to spoil them with treats they will love, while keeping them healthy with nutritious snacks.  Which is why I get so happy when I read the ingredient list for Treat Simple's Peanut Butter and Banana treats.   With just 5 simple ingredients, I don't have to worry about what my collies are eating.

Ingredients: Oat flour, peanut butter, banana, honey, organic virgin coconut oil

I also liked how small these treats are, they are perfect for small dogs, and for larger dogs who are trying to stay fit!  And their small size makes them an ideal reward for training.

• Always Baked in the USA
• 100% Natural
• Only 5 Calories Per Treat
• No Added Salt, Sugar, Preservatives
• Corn free, Soy Free, Wheat Free, GMO Free

So if you are looking for a healthy dog treat, with human grade, limited ingredients, then we highly recommend checking out Treat Simple.  You can order the Peanut Butter & Banana treats by clicking right here.

Wallflowers for the Collieflowers!

It's been a while since we last posted, and my only excuse is that I was sick with the flu for the holidays.  I spent most of my time snuggling with my collies and sleeping!  I am finally recovered, but I missed out on all the holiday fun!  We hope all our friends had a happy and joyous holiday season.

We wanted to continue telling you about the products made by our new friends at Treat Simple.com.  At TreatSimple "they believe in simple, honest ingredients that are proudly baked in the USA with the finest human grade ingredients. Their Mission is to provide a quality, naturally tasty treat your dog will love."  I think that statement says it all!  I can't tell you how excited I was to discover a company that shared my desire to feed only healthy, delicious treats to our dogs!  The next one of Treat Simple's dog treats that we wanted to talk about are their Waggin Wallflowers dog treats.

So we took these treats with us to the Nursing Home, as the collies deserve a reward for all they do.  But what did they think of the Waggin Wallflowers treats?  They loved them!  In fact, I was hoping to get more pictures for this review, but these treats were so yummy that a certain naughty smooth (who shall remain nameless) stole the rest of them and ate them all!  I guess there really couldn't be a bigger endorsement than that...

Ingredients: peanut butter, oat flour, glycerin, rolled oats, molasses, tapioca, flax seed, coconut oil, peanuts, apples, mixed tocopherols (a source of vitamin E).

If you want to order these, or any of the other Treat Simple products, you can find them by clicking here!  Ryder says, "Trust me, your pup will love these treats!  I just wish my sister hadn't finished off the bag!"

Did anyone notice a new face in this post?  We didn't get a new rough collie, but you may have seen him in previous posts.  The collie on the right is Finn, our Sophie and Maizie's brother.  He is now a Therapy Dog too, and his mom brings him on Therapy Dog visits with us, so you will see more of this pretty boy in future posts.  You can find our previous Treat Simple review by clicking here!

Fabulous Felines love Tiny Tiger Cat Treats!

This month the kitties also tried Tiny Tiger cat treats from Chewy.com.  I was tempted to wait until Christmas to let them try these, but then our readers wouldn't have time to order some for their kitties!  Tiny Tiger treats are sold exclusively by Chewy.com, you won't them anywhere else.  And the first thing I want to mention, is that I love the name!  Pumpkin is definitely my "Tiny Tiger," don't let her tiny size fool you.

And Goblin, though twice her size, and more of a gentle giant, wanted in on these treats as well.  But then, this boy is ALWAYS hungry!  So he was especially excited to see kitty treats, as he hates waiting for mealtimes for a kitty snack.

I wanted to also mention that these treats are very affordable, and come in a nice size container.  So they should last a good while.

These crunchy little treats come in cute shapes - stars and moons!  While the shape of the treat might not matter much to them, I thought they were adorable.

These treats were so appetizing, I actually got my very first picture of Pumpkin and goblin together! (It's amazing what a kitty treat will accomplish!)  They were waiting so patiently for me to finish taking pictures, I think these Tiny Tiger treats might be the key to teaching them some kitty tricks!

So both Pumpkin and Goblin enjoyed these cat treats, and while I am trying to keep them at a healthy weight, these are small enough that I don't have to worry.  My two purr machines were so thankful for these treats, they just love our friends at Chewy!  We all definitely recommend them, so head over to Chewy.com to order some for your fabulous felines!

We were sent these treats for free, in exchange for our honest review.

Solid Gold Holistic Delights - sure to delight your cat!

So every now and then the collies let the kitties take over the Collie Blog.  And since December is the month of giving, they also agreed to let the kitties do the product reviews for our friends at Chewy.com.  The kitties, Pumpkin and Goblin, are both really sweet to the collies, often curling up to sleep with them.  Goblin, who was only going to be a foster, was raised alone, as an only cat.  He came to live with us, after never living with dogs or other cats, and amazingly he gets along with everyone.  Since they are both so sweet and easygoing, our kitties don't ask for much.  But I think they deserve to be rewarded, and the way to their hearts is definitely through their stomachs!  This month our friends at Chewy.com sent us a box of Solid Gold Holistic Delights.  These Solid Gold Holistic Delights came in a variety pack of cat food pouches.  There was an assortment of creamy bisque with coconut milk.

Goblin couldn't believe all the different grain-free recipes that were included in the variety pack!  He wasn't sure which one to try first!

The Solid Gold Holistic Delights comes in 6 protein-rich, grain-free recipes - beef, crab, shrimp, chicken, salmon and tuna!

All the varieties come in a delicious bisque made with delicious coconut milk, a great source of highly-digestible calcium.

Even Pumpkin was impressed, and she also had a difficult time choosing which one to try first!  Let's check out the Key Benefits, while they decide:

  • Holistic variety pack includes high-protein recipes in a lip-smacking bisque made with coconut milk.
  • Includes real pieces of beef, crab, shrimp, chicken, salmon and tuna for the meat-centered diet cats and kittens need.
  • Provides all the essential amino acids, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and taurine your kitty needs for overall health.
  • The coconut milk is a great source of easy-to-digest calcium and helps provide much-needed daily hydration.
  • Comes in easy-to-open pouches that can be fed on their own or mixed into dry food, and contain no gluten or grains.

It looks like Goblin has made a decision, they decided to try the shrimp first.  Because both Goblin and Pumpkin have sensitive stomachs, we mixed the Solid Gold Holistic Delights with their regular dry cat food.  I was impressed, you could actually see the chunks of shrimp, and the pouches were very easy to open and pour over their food.

But the final test was how did it taste?  Both goblin and Pumpkin agreed, the Solid Gold Holistic Delights Creamy Bisque with Coconut Milk is delicious!  They finished their dinner in record time and were meowing for more!  We highly recommend these cat food pouches, and the kitties think the Solid Gold Holistic Delights  variety pack, sold right on the Chewy.com website, would make a wonderful gift for your kitties this Christmas!  (And with Chewy's super fast shipping, there is time to order some for your best feline friends!)

Since there were so many varieties, you can find the ingredient lists by clicking Here.  We were sent this product for free, in exchange for our honest review.  Thanks Chewy!

Treat Simple

This month we were sent a pawesome new product to review, it's a Trail Mix for dogs!  The product is made by a company called Treat Simple.  I am very excited to be doing this review, because I love this company!  The company was started by three women, who wanted to produce dog treats that are healthy and contain only simple ingredients!  I love supporting women-owned businesses, and I love companies that actually care about providing quality, healthy dog treats and foods!

The company website explains why they created their company, and I agree wholeheartedly:  "Dogs are considered man’s best friend for a reason. They put all their trust in us, are always there to greet us, and remind us to take in life’s simple pleasures. They are not considered just a pet, but a part of the family. That’s why we felt it was important to treat them with delicious, beneficial nutrients."   Treat Simple dog treats contain only five ingredients, so you know exactly what is going into every bite.  They only use ingredients from the USA, and use only the highest quality human ingredients!

Their Trail Mix dog treats have quickly become a favorite of my collies.  The crunchy biscuits contain only Oat flour, blueberries, kale, coconut oil and honey.  And each bag also contains baked apple slices and banana chips.  These treats are wheat free, corn free, soy free and contain only non-GMO ingredients.  My collies love these treats, but I can't tell which they love more, the biscuits or the dried apple and banana chips!  What I love is that they are the perfect snack to take along on a hike with my dogs.

They are also a nice snack when we are visiting Nursing Homes to do Therapy Dog visits, as that can be exhausting for a dog and a little snack helps keep them focused and energized.

You can actually see the blueberries and kale baked into the cookies, and the apple and banana chips look so good you might be tempted to snack on some yourself.  But my collies would not share, as they knew these were made just for them!

If you are looking for a healthy snack for your dogs, these treats are perfect for hikes and walks, or just as a reward for all the happiness they bring into your life!

You can order these treats, and many others, directly from the Treat Simple website by clicking here.  They also have a link to help find a local retailer.  While you are doing your holiday shopping, don't forget your best friends, give these a try!  And the collies will be reviewing some of Treat Simple's other products, so come back next week to see our next review!

Zignature canned dog food review

This month our good friends at Chewy.com sent us something that had the collies drooling!  They sent us Zignature Lamb Limited Ingredient canned dog food!  The collies always enjoy doing product reviews for Chewy.com, but the way to their hearts is definitely canned food, so they are very excited!  I love that we get to try new products, and get to share info about those products with our readers, they love that they get yummy canned food to try!

Zignature Limited ingredient canned food is a great option for many dogs with food allergies, as it is grain free, contains limited ingredients, and contains no chicken, corn, potatoes or soy.   Zignature just provides healthy food, which helps your dogs thrive.  It gives them the nutrition they need for hiking and playing, or competing at their favorite dog sport!

check out the Key Benefits:
  • This grain-free, limited ingredient formula is made with one protein source and only a handful of other ingredients, creating a clean recipe with ingredients you can count on.
  • Made with Lamb from the farmlands of New Zealand.
  • A staple source of complete protein, Lamb provides Vitamin B6, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus and Manganese, and is rich in Vitamin A and B12, Riboflavin, Niacin, Iron, Zinc, Copper, and Selenium.
  • Free of the most common potential canine allergens: corn, wheat, soy, dairy, and chicken, making this recipe ideal for pups with sensitivities and picky eaters.
  • Wholesome peas and chickpeas round out the recipe with powerful antioxidants and fiber-rich, low-glycemic carbohydrates.

I was pretty happy when I read the ingredient list too!

Ingredients:
Lamb, Lamb Broth, Lamb Liver, Peas, Carrots, Chickpeas, Lamb Meal, Calcium Carbonate, Agar-Agar, Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Salt, Suncured Alfalfa Meal, Potassium Chloride, Dicalcium Phosphate, Cranberries, Blueberries, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate), Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Niacin Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid).

Lamb is actually the main protein in our kibble, so I knew this wasn't going to upset their stomachs.  But Zignature has other varieties, if your dog cannot tolerate lamb.  They also offer their limited ingredient canned food in turkey, kangaroo, duck, pork, venison, salmon, goat, guinea fowl, and many others!  You can find all their varieties right on Chewy.com by clicking here!

I also love how adding Zignature canned dog food to the collies' dinners gives them some extra flavor to their food.  The collies always enjoy finding something new in their bowls!

The collies and I all agree, this is a great food, and it's a great way to treat your best friend to a tasty dinner!  And looking at their sweet faces, and all the love and joy they bring into my life, I think they are worth it!

Chewy.com sent us this canned food in exchange for our honest review.  We were not paid for this or any review featured here on the collie blog.

The Honest Kitchen Superfood Pour Overs

This month we reviewed another great product for our friends at Chewy.com.  We were sent a package of The Honest Kitchen's Superfood Pour Overs, Lamb and Beef Stew.  This was one food topper I was very eager to try, as I really love all of The Honest Kitchen's products.  I'm always looking for ways to make my collies' kibble more interesting and tasty, and the Pour Overs were made to do just that!

Let's check out the Key Benefits:

  • Slow-cooked, grain-free stew topper is 100% natural and adds a healthy boost of nutrition to your dog’s already complete and balanced diet.
  • Antioxidant-rich, meal enhancer made with chunks of lamb, beef, spinach, kale, broccoli and turmeric for an added boost of green goodness for dogs of all breeds and ages.
  • 2 servings are packaged in a BPA-free box, which can be easily opened, poured and closed for every pet parent’s convenience.
  • Human grade Pour Overs meets the rigorous FDA safety standards, ensuring the highest quality wet dog food topper.
  • Limited-ingredient topper is made in a human food facility with no rendered meals, by-products, grains, artificial colors or flavors, and only the highest quality non-GMO whole foods.

The Honest Kitchen Pour Overs contain only Non-GMO ingredients, with no rendered meals, by-products, grains or artificial ingredients - I am very impressed!

And look at the ingredients -  Lamb, beef, spinach, kale, broccoli and tumeric - this product is rich in Superfoods to help keep our pets healthy!

It was so easy to open, similar to a milk container, and it was easy to close and store in the fridge if you don't want to use it all at one time.  Each container is enough for two meals.  Since it was my collies first time trying this, and because collies have really sensitive stomachs, I added a lot of water and split it up over multiple meals until their systems got used to it.  But even getting less, they loved the taste of the Lamb and Beef Stew Pour Overs!  They all checked each others' bowls after dinner, to see if anyone missed any of this tasty stew!

You can see all the kale, spinach and broccoli right in the stew, and it smells pretty good too.

The collies really love this product, and I am so excited about being able to sneak in so many superfoods into their diet!  I can't say enough good things about The Honest Kitchen Pour Overs, and the collies can't get enough of the taste! We chose the Lamb and beef stew, because their kibble already contains lamb.  But if lamb and beef stew is not for you, The Honest Kitchen makes many other varieties of their Pour Overs, you can find them all by clicking right here.  I know I will be ordering more varieties for my gang, as they can't wait to try the Turkey and Pumpkin variety for Thanksgiving!

I want to thank our friends at Chewy.com for sending us this product, and all the many others over the years, as the collies really look forward to trying new things.  Our friends at Chewy send us these products for free, in exchange for our honest opinion, and we hope our reviews can help our readers find great, new treats, foods and toys for their best friends.

Do you know why Autumn holidays are the best?

Autumn holidays are the best, because of the all the delicious food!  From Halloween treats to Thanksgiving dinner, fresh picked corn and apples, and all those pies - we eat well this time of year!  As our dogs and cats are part of the family they also enjoy a special treat this time of year.  Last month we reviewed Blue Buffalo Boo Bars for our friends at Chewy.com, which are the perfect way to reward your best friend.  This month we are reviewing Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner for Chewy.com, and the collies could not be more thankful!

Abby, our senior girl, deserves to be spoiled in every way possible!
I am a label reader, as I really like to know what I am feeding my collies.  Their health is very important to me, I'm actually more careful with their food than my own!  I was excited to read the label for this canned food - turkey, chicken, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans and granny smith apples in gravy!  That sure sounds delicious!

Look at Scarlett's happy face!

Ingredients:
Deboned Turkey, Turkey Broth, Chicken, Chicken Broth, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Green Beans, Apples, Dried Egg Product, Potato Protein, Natural Flavor, Dried Peas, Dried Potatoes, Potato Starch, Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Phosphate, Guar Gum, Blueberries, Cranberries, Potassium Chloride, Gum Ghatti, Xanthan Gum, Salt, Sunflower Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Salmon Oil, Choline Chloride, Cassia Gum, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Minerals (Zinc Amino Acid Complex, Iron Amino Acid Complex, Manganese Amino Acid Complex, Copper Amino Acid Complex, Potassium Iodate, Cobalt Glucoheptonate, Sodium Selenite), Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Niacin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate), Yucca Schidigera Extract

Ryder, patiently waiting to try the new canned food!

So far, this looks like a pretty good canned food.  There are even blueberries and cranberries in the ingredient list.  We love our Thanksgiving Day Dinner, so I think our collies should love theirs too!

Key Benefits

  • Inspired by Thanksgiving dinner, this meal features real deboned turkey and chicken as the first ingredients for a great blend of protein your pal is sure to love.
  • Contains a savory turkey broth for added flavor and moisture that will keep your furry best friend coming back for more.
  • Grain-free recipe is filled with a delicious blend of vegetables and fruits such as sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, apples, blueberries and cranberries that will keep your pal satisfied.
  • Complete and balanced nutrition made in small batches with the freshest, highest-quality ingredients available, and can be served as a complete meal or as a kibble topper for extra protein and moisture.
  • Cooked in the USA with wholesome, nutritious ingredients from trusted farmers, so you can feel good about using it as your go-to meal.

I was happy to see that it was made right here in the USA.  And I like that the recipe was created with both nutrition and taste in mind.

I feed my collies a dry dog food, and I'm sure it can get pretty boring after awhile.  So I love to add toppers, like canned food, to make the meal more appetizing and to give the collies an extra treat.  While they are all good eaters, and devour their meals, I can always tell when they are really enjoying it.  Maybe it's the speed in which they inhaled their food, or the way they spent extra time licking their bowls afterwards, but I could definitely tell that they loved this canned food.  As I want to keep them both happy and healthy, I love when Merrick comes out with special foods for the seasons.  If you are looking for a way to make your dogs' or cats' dinners more festive this holiday season, the collies recommend you order some Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner from Chewy.com.  Your best friends will thank you, and they deserve it!

We were sent this dog food for free, in exchange for our honest opinion.  The collies love to do these reviews, so they can share info about their favorite products with you.  You can order Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner by clicking HERE!
