Christmas - collie style!

Does your dog have a Christmas wish list? With Christmas 24 days away, we have begun our Christmas shopping.  But the only family members I have bought presents for are the collies and Pumpkin kitty.

I actually braved the Black Friday sales, and went shopping at Petco and Petsmart.  Of course, I waited until the early evening to go shopping, to avoid the traffic and crowds.  But the sales were too good to pass up, and now there will be some very happy collies on Christmas morning!  Between the gifts that I bought for them, and whatever Santa brings, they should be good and spoiled on December 25th!

I am curious though, do you buy your pets Christmas presents?  Do you wrap them and put them under the tree?  Do your dogs get excited on Christmas morning, and joyfully tear open their presents?  Our dog Mojo, who we lost 6 years ago, took great delight in opening her presents.  And our collie Lad, who we lost 14 months ago, loved opening his presents.  He actually loved opening presents so much, that when he was done opening his own presents, he would help my daughter open hers!

Now that my daughter is older, and in her first year of college, she doesn't feel the same deep joy and excitement on Christmas morning that she experienced as a young child.  It's still her favorite holiday, and she enjoys giving and receiving presents as much as anyone else.  But watching our collies on Christmas morning helps us to recapture the innocent joy she felt as a little girl eagerly opening presents to see what Santa had brought for her.

So as we wrap our gifts to our collies, and put their names on their presents, we look forward to watching them open and play with their new toys.  Here’s a video for you to enjoy from the fun chaos of last year’s Christmas morning, when Ryder and Kori were just young pups.  I can't wait to see what happens this Christmas morning!

  1. Christmas is always so wild and crazy (but fun) here with six young grandchildren, one of whom only gets to visit here a couple of times a year. We do get our presents but it is usually pretty low key. Maybe we need to celebrate Christmas with the Sibes a week early:)

    We really enjoyed your video.

    1. My sister does that, she celebrates with the collies on the day after Christmas. That way they can spend the entire day with them! :)

  2. I just use Christmas as an excuse to buy *even more* things for Rugby. He doesn't usually get it on Christmas though, and it doesn't get wrapped.

He does have to suffer through pictures every day though with our Annual Christmas [photo] Advent Calendar that he does on his blog.

    1. She was just a kitten then. But she was raised with Kori and Ryder, so she thinks she is a collie too! :)

  4. Kori, we're twins!!! I have the same jacket! ;-) This is my first Christmas, so I haven't gotten to open holiday gifts yet...but I LOVE boxes and think that every box is mine (hehe, stinks for the human gifts that are coming in the mail)! I'm sure that I'll love it! Domeek has always given the cats gifts though! One year, Popcorn, decided to open half a dozen gifts under the tree on Christmas morning...none of which were hers! ;-) Hehehe!

  10. Oh yes, the girlz get Christmas presents and love to open them. I am having a difficult time "hiding" them from the girlz. Gracie is very nosy and thinks every bag that comes in the house must have something for her in it (and it usually does:)
Kori is styling in that coat!!
Would you be so kind as to send me your snail mail address.
vjbloy(at) gmail(dot)com so we can send you a Christmas card. thx
