It's cookie time!

Anyone who has a dog knows a few things with absolute certainty.  The first, is that when you bring a dog into your home, into your family, and into your heart, you have a new best friend for life.  The second, is that you are now responsible for that dog's well-being and happiness.  They do miss you when you are gone, they wait anxiously for your return and they greet you with joy when you come home, and so it's important to make time to do things with your dog that he or she will enjoy.  And third, it doesn't take a lot to make them happy.  A nice long walk, where you aren't rushing them along, is something that will benefit you both.  Some toys to play with, and basic obedience training are both necessities for your dog.  And finally, routine veterinary check ups along with a good quality kibble and treats will keep your dog happy and healthy.

That's why I was so happy when I first discovered Chewy.com.  We buy our dog food from Chewy.com through their autoship program, and the food is delivered right to our front door!  So when they began sending us products to review for them, I was happy that they trusted us and valued our opinion!  This is a company that cares about it's customers, and they care about the dogs and cats that use their products.  They send us items to review, for free, for our honest opinion and we are excited to see which new items we will be asked to review each month!

This month we were sent Old Mother Hubbard Dog Treats.  Chewy.com sent us a bag of their Original Classic Assortment, which contained a variety of flavors.

Take a look at the Key Benefits:
  • Natural oven-baked dog biscuits
  • Made with all natural, wholesome ingredients
  • For dogs of all ages & sizes
  • No artificial preservatives
And here are the ingredients:

Whole Wheat Flour, Oatmeal, Wheat Bran, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, A Natural Source of Vitamin E), Chicken, Turmeric, Charcoal, Cane Molasses, Paprika, Paprika Extracts, White Cheddar Cheese, Eggs, Apples, Carrots, Garlic, Salt, Mixed Tocopherols (A Natural Preservative).

I liked the small size of these cookies, because I want my dogs to maintain a healthy weight, and because the puppies could enjoy them too.  But what about the taste?  Will picky dogs like them?  I'm not sure, but let's see what Ryder and Kori think...

Judging by the speed these cookies disappeared, I would have to say they sure seemed to enjoy these biscuits!

So based on the ingredients, the reasonable price, and their enjoyment of these biscuits, we would definitely get these for the collies again.  Thanks Chewy.com for sending these cookies for our gang, they loved them!

It's in the bag!

Each month we get the wonderful opportunity to share our opinion about different dog and cat products sold by the wonderful folks at Chewy.com.  They send us these items for free, we receive no reimbursement for doing these reviews.  The collies love when their Chewy.com box arrives, they know it contains something special just for them.

This month we were sent Frisco Dog Poop Bags.  We were excited to receive these, as the collies love to take walks, and as responsible pet owners we want to leave nothing behind but pawprints.  They come in a nice dispenser that clips right onto your leash.  And even though the collies are sweet, their poop isn't.  So it's nice that the Frisco poop bags are lightly scented, to help mask odors, until we can reach a garbage can to dispose of them.  And the best part, they open easily!  I didn't have to stand there struggling to open the bag for 10 minutes , while the dogs cried to continue their walk!

And check out the Key Benefits:
  • Bag dimensions are 9 x 13 inches
  • Durable and leak-proof
  • Includes bag dispenser/holder and 15 bags
  • Dispenser fits most standard dog poop bag rolls
  • Available cucumber melon scented or unscented

In our neighborhood we have a lot of dog lovers, and nothing makes us happier than seeing dogs out walking with their people.  But nothing annoys us more than when people do not pick up after their dogs, as fecal matter can spread disease, and nothing can ruin a walk quicker than stepping in a pile of poop.  So we hope more people will take advantage of the great price of these bags, at under $2, Chewy.com makes these affordable for every pet owner!  The collies give these poop bags our highest rating, 4 paws!  So please pick up some Frisco Poop bags, and head out on an adventure with your best friend!

Today is a special day...

We have so many posts to share, but today is all about three special collies.  They came into our lives 5 years ago today, following a Hurricane that devastated our area.  They have brought so much joy and fun into our lives, that we can't imagine our family without them. So we want to wish our Kori and Ryder, and their brother Luke, a very Happy 5th Birthday!  You can read about the story of their unusual birth by clicking here - click me!

It's that time of year again...

Dogs feature in starring roles in many movies and TV shows, and they are also the main characters in many works of fiction.  I could spend all day writing about the movies and books I have come to love because of their canine icons.  But instead, I am currently focused on one group of canines who were the main characters in a series of books in the 1920’s through the 1930’s.  The books were mainly works of fiction, but they also included many real events, and the dogs in the books were very real.  They lived, played, and died at Sunnybank, and their lives were forever immortalized on the pages of Albert Payson Terhune’s books.

I’ve written many times about Sunnybank, and the wonderful Sunnybank collies.  And each summer around this time many collie lovers and Terhune fans begin to get ready…for it’s almost time for The Gathering of Collies at Sunnybank!  Reservations are made, collies are bathed and groomed, and we begin to pack for our trip to “Collie Mecca.”  For many diehard Terhune fans, this is the one weekend they eagerly await all year.  For on the banks of Sunnybank, though the main house and barn are long gone, the collies and their people gather for two days to explore the grounds, visit the graves of the Sunnybank collies, and to socialize.  There are guest speakers, silent auctions, fun and games, a collie puppy match, and even a memorial for the collies that have left us.

Next weekend we will also be making the journey to Sunnybank, and we will be bringing some of our collies.  I can’t wait to walk the grounds with my own collies, visit with friends, and of course take lots of pictures!  We are going to enter our puppies in the puppy match, which is just a fun way to introduce puppies to dog shows.  And we are just going to sit, and soak it all in, remembering our past trips to Sunnybank while we look out across the remaining 10 acres of “The Place.”

You can read more about Sunnybank by clicking HEREHERE, and Also HERE. There is truly no other dog event that can compare to The Gathering, and I am so happy I can share the experience, with all of you.
