I wasn’t ready…

We lost our Kori yesterday.  Even though we knew it was coming, my daughter and I still weren’t prepared.  The sight of her empty bowl, when I was preparing the collie’s dinner last night, just wrecked me.  Kori and Ryder always ate their dinner side by side, and now he stands alone, none of the other collies are willing to eat in “ her spot.”  I’m feeling her loss so deeply, and already miss my Sunshine girl so much.  The collies are all sticking close by me, to try and help, but I know they miss her too.  She was the 6th dog I’ve lost during my adult life, and it never gets any easier.

Love you my beautiful Kori Beanie, 8/30/11 - 5/15/24

  5. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    1. She was the 6th dog I’ve had to say goodbye to, and each loss has just wrecked me. I just wish dogs lived longer, 12 or 13 years is just not long enough.

  9. You are undertaking the long journey through grief. While others may share that grief we all walk it alone. There are no right or wrong paths, no proper way to carry oneself, no set amount of time to complete it. Some steps will come easier than others. There will be rogue waves of grief that you won’t see coming, and knock you back days. But you will come through it. If you get lost let us know. We have been through it before and we might be able to help you find the way ou

    1. Thank you so much! I’m a little better, but then something will hit me (like the sight of her empty bowl) and the grief is as fresh as the moment she left me.

  13. We read about Kori on the Cat Blogosphere and, even though we have not met you before, we wanted to send words of comfort. We know all too well the pain of losing our friends and the hollow feeling that comes with it. You clearly gave your beautiful girl a beautiful life.

  17. I am sorry that your precious and sweet Kori has become a new Angel at the Rainbow Bridge. May the many wonderful memories you made over the years comfort and sustain you know and during the difficult days of grieving....and they will be with you forever deep in your heart.

I made you a memento to honor her memory, but don't know where to send it. I will post it in my blog; you will be able to 'snag' it from there. It will be up either Saturday or Sunday...
