Christmas - collie style!

Does your dog have a Christmas wish list? With Christmas 24 days away, we have begun our Christmas shopping.  But the only family members I have bought presents for are the collies and Pumpkin kitty.

I actually braved the Black Friday sales, and went shopping at Petco and Petsmart.  Of course, I waited until the early evening to go shopping, to avoid the traffic and crowds.  But the sales were too good to pass up, and now there will be some very happy collies on Christmas morning!  Between the gifts that I bought for them, and whatever Santa brings, they should be good and spoiled on December 25th!

I am curious though, do you buy your pets Christmas presents?  Do you wrap them and put them under the tree?  Do your dogs get excited on Christmas morning, and joyfully tear open their presents?  Our dog Mojo, who we lost 6 years ago, took great delight in opening her presents.  And our collie Lad, who we lost 14 months ago, loved opening his presents.  He actually loved opening presents so much, that when he was done opening his own presents, he would help my daughter open hers!

Now that my daughter is older, and in her first year of college, she doesn't feel the same deep joy and excitement on Christmas morning that she experienced as a young child.  It's still her favorite holiday, and she enjoys giving and receiving presents as much as anyone else.  But watching our collies on Christmas morning helps us to recapture the innocent joy she felt as a little girl eagerly opening presents to see what Santa had brought for her.

So as we wrap our gifts to our collies, and put their names on their presents, we look forward to watching them open and play with their new toys.  Here’s a video for you to enjoy from the fun chaos of last year’s Christmas morning, when Ryder and Kori were just young pups.  I can't wait to see what happens this Christmas morning!

Question...and our thanks!

Ok all you dog bloggers out there…we have a question!

We have read your posts, where you review products from new companies, like Mr. Chewy or Hartz, and how you get free dog treats/toys/products to try.  What we NEED to know is how does this happen?  We REALLY want to be asked for our opinion on tasty treats and fun toys!  We feel that collies need to be heard, that our barks of approval will help these companies sell their products!  But we don’t know how you are all getting noticed by these companies.  So please, share your secret?

This sad Ryder pup is going to lay here and pout, until some company asks for his opinion!

And we wanted to let everyone know that Ryder and Kori did win the calendar photo contest!  They are going to be Cover Collies!  Their picture will also be used for the month of January.  We wanted to thank everyone who voted for them, your support was deeply appreciated!

Also, anyone looking for a 2013 calendar?  Look no further!  This is a great opportunity to pick up a calendar AND help two other bloggers and their dogs.  As soon as the calendars go on sale, I will post a link.

At the dog show...

It's a dog show weekend, so I thought I would take some pictures today!

My daughter is handling Danny again.  (He is Scarlett's Dad) Danny won Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety!

My daughter also handled one of my sister's collies.

And she was hired to handle Jodie, who loves spending time with my daughter!  Can you guess why?

Relaxing, and waiting for her ring time!

Some random pictures from the show...
Bearded Collie - as soon as he spotted my camera, he sat and posed for me!

Pretty Boxer, but I wonder what she was thinking? lol

This Bernese Mountain Dog was set up next to us. We love her pretty crate!

She looked a little embarrassed by her outfit!

We have a request...

We have a special request.  We are doing well in the calendar competition.  So we would like to request that you vote for Blueberry today.  For those who don't know her, Blueberry is a beautiful rescue dog.  She found her forever home, and now her mom fosters other dogs too.  We think Blueberry deserves to be in this calendar, so please go vote for her today.  Thank you! :)

Thank you for supporting us!

What a weekend!  My daughter handled one of my sister's collies, and won Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety.  We have been taking little Scarlett to handling class, to get her ready for the upcoming collie specialty season.  So hopefully, we will soon have news about Scarlett to share!

She is now six months old, and is looking more like her mother every day!

Please don't forget to vote.  We really appreciate every single vote, because it means you took a moment out of your day to help us, when you didn't have to!  So thank you!

Two of a kind!

All my dogs are very attached to each other.  Abby and Holly have lived together a few years now, and though they don't show a strong bond, they enjoy each other's company.  Ryder and Kori are littermates, and while they aren't as inseperable as they were when they were younger, they are still very close.

But I am constantly amazed at how the relationship between Scarlett and Kori has developed.  Now that Scarlett is 6 months old, she and Kori have become best friends.  They prefer to sleep together, and are constantly playing together.

Abby, Holly and Ryder will join in during playtime or naptime, but these two sisters are never far apart.

Scarlett thinks Kori makes a very comfy bed!

They have become very bonded.  Anyone else experience this with their pets?

Dog Treat Warning...

The holidays are almost here...and like us, I'm sure many of you will be buying your dogs treats and presents.  So I thought I would share this, as many of the treats made in China are still causing fatalities in dogs.  So be careful before giving your furkids any treats this holiday season!

Mischief Monday...

This just made me laugh!  My daughter put Pumpkin’s food in her carrier, figuring the dogs couldn’t reach it in the little cat carrier…..but she was wrong.

Scarlett puppy squeezed herself right in there to “help” Pumpkin finish her dinner!

Which one?

So there is going to be a dog blog photo contest.  13 winners will be chosen, and their photos will be used in a Dog Blog calendar to help raise money for two of our fellow bloggers who need a little help.  The details are here:

http://www.heartlikeadog.com/2012/11/06/the-dogs-of-blogville-calendar-contest/

You can only submit 1 picture.  And I am having a REALLY difficult time choosing which one.  So I need your help, which one do you think I should use?
